How to soften dry cat food

Can I moisten dry cat food?

Ensuring good nutrition for your cat is important. This not only means providing the right amounts of protein, carbs, and fat, daily, but it means ensuring that you feed something your cat will enjoy and that benefits them in other ways.

Dry kibble is convenient, cheaper than wet food, and it usually means less mess before and after eating, but not all cats enjoy it and some might find it impossible to eat the hard kibble. Below are 2 methods you can use to help effectively soften cat kibble and make mealtimes better for both of you.

1. Using Warm Water

Dry cat food is softened by simply adding water to it.

Add 1 part warm water to 3 parts kibble and leave to soak for 10 to 15 minutes, then serve.

Do not leave out for more than 2 hours.

2. Using Warm Broth

Just as you can add warm water, you can also try adding homemade chicken stock, bone broth or beef broth. Heat the broth until warm, and add gradually to the kibble until your desired consistency is achieved.

Advantages of adding water to cat food

Palatability: by moistening the kibble, its flavor and smell are enhanced, thus making the food more palatable and appetizing for cats.

Digestibility: compared to dry food, wet food is more easily digested and requires less effort from the digestive system to process.

Boost water intake: adding water to dry food increases a cat’s daily intake of water.
